Happy Holidays

By the way, the Dow is down 220 and the S&P is closing in on 1400. Please don't forget about that chart on my last post. I've actually framed it in my office to caputre the moment.

You know, I hate to duplicate my own work. But on a day like today where the market continues to fall, and all pans out as expected, I have to entertain you with the following clip. It is symbolic.

You guys are great, and I want to wish you all a happy holiday. Enjoy the time with your families, and more importantly; the time away from the market. See you Friday.

Happy thanksgiving Jeff and the rest of my american friends from America Jr. (canada). Our countries are very similar except we celebrate thanksgiving a month earlier than you guys and our football has 3 downs instead of 4, thats basically the only difference.

Ryan,

Yes that and your currency is far more valuable than ours.

I'm going to stuff myself silly tomorrow, get back Friday morning to tie a ribbon on this week, then watch my beloved Jayhawks take the first of two steps toward a national title matchup on Saturday in the most bitter college rivalry in the entire land!! By the way, if you don't know about the hatred between Kansas and Missouri there was a great article yesterday in the Wall Street Journal about it. It dates back to the Civil War. It's bloody, it's bitter, and it's still very much alive. And for the first time in my lifetime, it's carried onto the field. Officials at Kansas City's Arrowhead stadium are expecting 300 broken seats. Can you believe that???

I want to lastly give thanks to Jeff. You are a leader, a guide, and a flashlight when the market turns the lights off. It is because of you that I can do what I love to do, and really because of you that my mistakes haven't cost me. Without your guidance and generosity, I may not have made it. Best to you and your family.

Everyone have fun tomorrow. I hope you are able to forget about the markets for a day. I have to admit that I wish I could, but I really never can. Call it a flaw.

~~~~~~~~HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO JEFF AND ALL OA~~~~~~~~
Wed, November 21, 2007 at 04:53PM | Unregistered CommenterHarry
Let's see,
I am grateful for:
-that family that is everything.
-that my wife,was able to turn me from a male into a person.
-that my children, two at home and two coming home, still want to come home. I have missed them terribly.
-that I have my parents still with me.
-that my father in law considers me his biological son.
-that I have the means to have a family gathering tomorrow.
-that I have the means to trade daily.
-that I have this community to enforce a life decision I made 2 years ago to take back control of my daily life.
-that Jeff has provided this venue for those of us with the incredible notion to trade for a living, (that all our friends are convinced we are smoking something), have gathered to nurture each other toward the same goal.
-that I have virtual OA friends.
-that there are fish in the sea for me to catch....as in yesterday.
-that someone made golfballs for me to whack.
-that my wife still finds me engaging and attractive and she is is still the spouse and parent that I strive to be.
Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!!!!
Jeff,
Can you explain how/if we should be using the new $VXV 3-month volatility index?
Also, is anyone else watching that giant symmetrical triangle on the $VIX? Is it hiding there, like the iceberg lying in wait for the Titanic, forecasting an explosion upward (huge market drop) or is it Santa Claus himself, ready to hand out a giftwrapped, precipitous fall (market explosion higher)??? Stay tuned because (though it seems incredibly weird to say this after such a giant and straight run down) it looks like we're heading for another major market move one way or the other quickly.
Alright I better stop now...my parentheses keys are begging for air.
Jeff,
Hope you are enjoying a couple of days and don't happen to see this post. ;) If you do see it . . many many thanks.
Brett,
Definitely rooting for your team tomorrow night. Might as well; Huskers are in the toilet.
Anybody,
Looking at the news of lawsuit against CROX. Anybody have experience with something like this?
Brett,
Thanks for reminding us to be diversified. I had too many puts, and closed out some trades Wed to balance.
Wow - I thought that there would be a few OAs out "shopping" this short trading day! There is some good "leftovers" to take a look at. I posted a few on the Traders Chat (Bullish). Remember that it will be a short trading day but may lead a Rally both for today and into next week...
EB-
Knowing that today's a light trading day, how much weight would you give any of the moves today (in terms of broken trends, etc.)? Thanks!
Tuba Todd -
I think that today will give an indicator of where things will go next week. My charts have us at really solid supports and appears to be a good place to bounce. I am trading with some tight stops today and looking to catch some good bounces. I think the whipsawing that we have had prior to this in the short term may be lessening for at the least the short term. This being said - the charts will always shos us reality.
MDC Jeff, my put netted 129%. Thank you!
SYNA Cassie & Laney. I read your thoughts on this one & took it Weds just before close. Thank you! Great for offsetting puts today.
Brett
I've known by your posts that you are wise. Knowing that you are a Jayhawker doubles the ante. One of my greatest sports memories was mid 60's when the Missou came to KU to embarrass (again) the underdog Jayhawks. Gayle Sayers scored on the 1st play from scrimmage, and the rest of the game Missouri pushed KU up and down the field at will. With 2 minutes to go and the score MU 13, KU 7, coach put in softmore quarterback Bobby Douglas. KU marched down the field and Sayers scored on the last play of the game. Not even a double in AAPL can match the euphoria in that stadium
I'll chug one in your honor Saturday night!
Is anyone thinking of shorting BIDU based on the head and shoulders formation? Looks to be over a 100 point move if it plays out.
I'm trying to figure out if I should take an anticipatory trade or wait for conformation... any input would be great! Hope everyone had a great holiday!
Fri, November 23, 2007 at 09:42AM | Unregistered CommenterShmikey
Shmikey,
I'd play it, but only if it confirms. The probabiliy of success is zero here without confirmation. If you think about it, you are betting against a monster.
Mary Beth,
I mentioned this play on the Marketcast and I am glad you held. Not because it hadn't hit an arbitrary price target, but because there was no reason to sell.
Nice work!
Shot this "Happy Holidays" video on the streets of NYC last week. I don't think it's entirely off topic here.
If you can... check it out.
Thanks!
