Yeah, I know...too little too late.

Regardless, this is an 07 model, so treat it as such.

In any event, video production is back in order. Happy New Year!

where'd it go?

Thanks, Jeff. I appreciate it.

I can clearly read the symbols with that font.

'Turning Japanese' intro to China segment a hasty decision, or possible merger?

Tue, January 1, 2008 at 08:48PM | Unregistered CommenterBryan

:*)
Thanks Jeff. Good to hear your voice again.
Help please re: FTEK (aka FTK) Is it just time to dump this slowpoke, or do you see something significant in this pattern/news that would inspire you to put some money on the downside?

Tue, January 1, 2008 at 08:55PM | Unregistered CommenterTrader J

Thanks for the start to a great furtune that will come to all who follow rules and listen to the true Option Addict!

Tue, January 1, 2008 at 09:03PM | Unregistered CommenterMJ

Thanks & Happy New Year. Didn't know you were going to post this short trading week.

I looked at GR (yesterday) which could be bottoming out at $70. Some sell-off on Monday - expected. The AccD is high, big chart - not the best, PE good, been a good uptrending stock which I made some nice money during it's'07 move, has earnings 1/31. The MACD looks like it making higher lows.

Anyway, one on my radar for this week for a direction.

Jeff,
Did you say the markets would be closed Wednesday Jan. 2, 2008?
I think that they were closed Jan. 2, 2007 (mourning of Gerald Ford).
Scrambling to find news that closed tomorrow.
thanks as always

Tue, January 1, 2008 at 09:12PM | Unregistered CommenterLadd

Jeff- I had to listen to your intro three times to be sure I heard you right- you said the market is closed on January 2nd? According to the New York Stock Exchange, they are open for business so I plan on showing up for work and trading.

Jeff and OA's,

What do you think about ACI? ascend trian, with a breakout and possible retest of support?

Tue, January 1, 2008 at 10:00PM | Unregistered CommenterZ Bob

I read a calendar that showed the market was closed...perhaps it was last years. My bad.

I was a little baffled by it myself.

Tue, January 1, 2008 at 11:30PM | Unregistered CommenterOption Addict

Thanks for the awesome watchlist. Let's rock and roll in 2008 :)

Wed, January 2, 2008 at 12:12AM | Unregistered CommenterGrace

Z Bob, that train left the station on Dec. 20th when ACI began its breakout. So far, there has been no retest.

Wed, January 2, 2008 at 05:00AM | Unregistered CommenterDoji Girl

Anyone buyin calls on anything?

Wed, January 2, 2008 at 07:58AM | Unregistered CommenterPoundcake

Yeah, markets not closed today.

Wed, January 2, 2008 at 08:03AM | Unregistered CommenterWilliam G. Cash

PVH looks to be coming out of that descending triangle.

Wed, January 2, 2008 at 08:19AM | Unregistered CommenterPoundcake

Poundcake,

Go through Jeff's watchlist .. takes notes and use some his recommendations to get started with some buys ... That's why he posts it and there are 'jewels' in that list ... That should be your first place to pick up new stock/call-put ideas. Then, do your research to see if they fit your rules ... then look for other stocks on your own with similar characteristics ...Doing the above means 'money' to your account ....

Hope this helps!

Wed, January 2, 2008 at 08:22AM | Unregistered CommenterBenton

Thanks Benton. That's exactly what I do. I actually scheduled my college classes around the Monday release of Jeff's watchlist. I don't see any entry points from the list that fit my rules though. And, I think the DOW just bumped it's head so I'll just look for some pull backs. VIP intraday perhaps.

Wed, January 2, 2008 at 08:29AM | Unregistered CommenterPoundcake

If you were quick enough, MA bounced off an uptrending diagonal support I had drawn around 212. MA's hovering around 215ish now.

Wed, January 2, 2008 at 08:35AM | Unregistered CommenterJorge

Glad you are doing that Poundcake ... when you asked for CALLS earlier, that confused me with Jeff just releasing this list .... and there should be some entries in either direction later in the day.

Good luck to you ....

VIX is climbing everyday, someone shoot that thing.

Wed, January 2, 2008 at 09:17AM | Unregistered CommenterAlex in So Cal

No, don't shoot the VIX -- when the VIX is high it's time to sell prem's. Go VIX, GO...

Wed, January 2, 2008 at 09:44AM | Unregistered CommenterFree2trade

I was gonna say.. I know I haven't been doing this for very long, but don't options folks love a high VIX for reasons already mentioned?

Wed, January 2, 2008 at 09:48AM | Unregistered CommenterJorge

AAPL Jan $190 NP for $7+ Heck that's 3.7% your Greek friend Theta work the market!

Wed, January 2, 2008 at 09:49AM | Unregistered CommenterFree2trade

Jeff,
Never too little and never too late. A lot of your watchlists are permanently etched on my forehead (which is bigger than most) in reverse typing so I can read it in the mirror. They are beautiful... and are gifts that keep on giving as the cycles repeat themselves over and over.

ESRX is one that I took a while ago and was up 40% on. Now I'm up about 5%. It should be ripe for the picking momentarily,

It's 2008... does everyone feel smarter? I had a pice recnetly and the bottom of the box said....

"HEY YOUR PIE IS UPSIDE DOWN!!!!"

It's a new year... trade your brains out.

Happy 2008.

Wed, January 2, 2008 at 10:19AM | Unregistered CommenterChris and Catherine

EMC and CMA are making nice moves today. If you're in a short time-frame play on POT it's peaked. Might want to take profits. Long-term dweebs like me will hold on and on and on. Picked a pretty good entry on VIP on Monday, I think.

Mind you... I think I'm pretty hot stuff. Good thing, because no one else does.

Wed, January 2, 2008 at 10:26AM | Unregistered CommenterChris and Catherine

Jorge,

Option sellers love a high VIX. Option buyers do not. Increased volatility inflates the cost of options.

Wed, January 2, 2008 at 10:32AM | Unregistered CommenterSean M.

Jeff mentioned weakness in the metal sector. Someone at X is listening. I looked at X on Monday and it was right at it's previous high... somewhere around 120. I almost bought a speculative put on it as it looked to me like it was having a very difficult time breaking the 120 mark. Coulda, would'a, should'a. Those of you who passed Mind Reading 101 may feel free to use my thoughts to become millionaires.

Wed, January 2, 2008 at 10:40AM | Unregistered CommenterChris and Catherine

I don't know what Cleaveland Cliffs does for a living, but with "Cliffs" in it's name it must have something to do with rocks, or mountain goats, or books (Cliff's Notes.) Jeff mentioned it as a potential breakout but it has hit it's head on the previous high of 105. This could now be a double top with massive downside possibilities. Jump on the good ship Plummet. $85 is my target with a side order of 75 as a possibility.

Wed, January 2, 2008 at 10:44AM | Unregistered CommenterChris and Catherine

Hi OAs,
for those of you that are bullish today CAM has broken out of a symmetrical triangle post split.
Also,MHS is in the verge of breaking out (possible split and earnings move up). Put them on your watchlist.
Happy New Year

Wed, January 2, 2008 at 10:52AM | Unregistered Commentercoolkel

Chris ... always great to read your postings ... glad to have you around here more often ...

On CLF ... I'm seeing an ascending triangle and to play that as a PUT right now seems suicide to me. You can enjoy that profit later if it works and call me stupid ... but I'm looking for upside on this at some point once it crosses 103.50 ....

Just my two cents ... I hope you make much more than 2 cents on the trade ....

Wed, January 2, 2008 at 10:52AM | Unregistered CommenterBenton

dweeb - noun (slang) nerd; wimp; a person regarded as socially inept or foolish, often on account of being overly studious.

hmmmm...

Wed, January 2, 2008 at 10:52AM | Unregistered Commenter...

What an interesting day. I'm up 10% right now (on my invested money, that is. Not my account. I will randomly choose invested money or Account totals as it suits me. If you don't like that... contact the Complaint Department between 8:00 PM and 6:00 AM on the sixth Wednesday of any month.) and even my RRSP is only down a "smidge." The S&P is touching the ascending line of a triangle I drew a while ago (no... not just a random line... but a line determinded to hold significant scientific value to the Inca and Mayan cultures.) I think today could be a pivitol day. I may just close out a couple of my puts that have gained substantial value... in the thoughts that 1445 could be a bottom for a while.

All you Mayans take note. The King has spoken.

We now return you to our regularly scheduled program.

re: VIX- it's great to sell premium when the VIX is high but it can always go higher and that wouldn't necessarily be a good thing. It's better to sell premium when the VIX is low, medium or high but heading lower or at least if you forecast it to head lower in the near future. It allows you to buy back your shorts if need be at cheaper prices.

Benton,
I think Jeff agrees with you. And I could very well be convinced to switch to the Call Side. I don't think I'd take my put trade on it right now... but it is a possibility that I want to watch. Jeff had the breakout of his career when he contradicted one of his mentors. If I do it often enough I might actually be right once. I'm going to watch this one closely and use it as an educational instrument.

Coolkel, Right now CAM looks nice. I'd wait until the end of the day to make a decision on it though, as $50 has been significant resistance twice before and there's not a ton of volume to back this up. If it holds above 50 and volume picks up I sure like it though... especially with this kind of upside on a day that the market's down over 200 points.

Speaking of which. VIP is up today. That bodes very well for those looking for a call play. I just may play both of these at the end of the day (I already have VIP stock) if they hold up.

Wed, January 2, 2008 at 11:04AM | Unregistered CommenterChris and Catherine

EDU from Jeff's post of 12/27 is making a massive move today. However beware of earnings on the 15th.

Jeff have you decreased your time frame for the breakout on this one?

Wed, January 2, 2008 at 11:10AM | Unregistered Commenterjym

F2T,
I sold a Jan $185 NP on AAPL for $4.90. Not bad.

Wed, January 2, 2008 at 11:42AM | Unregistered CommenterDebbie Davis

Dang ...this is getting painful...I wish the market was closed today!

I hope it takes a great big inhale before the end of the day or I'm not gonna have a happy day today.

clean cups

Wed, January 2, 2008 at 12:42PM | Unregistered CommenterJon in Boise

Stan,

I respectfully disagree with you. In the case of APPL (yes) I could own at $190 less $7.05 or $182.95

At this writting, AAPL can be bought back for $6 (just made a cool $1.05 per share) plus Theta is taking $0.23 a day and that number will get bigger in the next few days. Option Friday is 16 days away and that means annualized (funny number) that means a 96% return. Now, if you consider margin, the number is 5 times that.

Then you consider I have skin in the game, I looking at buying calls or puts per as planned.

Can you sa, "yippie ki-yay"

Wed, January 2, 2008 at 12:58PM | Unregistered CommenterFree2trade

what does clean cups mean????

Wed, January 2, 2008 at 01:31PM | Unregistered CommenterTrader J

Clean cups means that Jeff has put up a new post and the "conversations" are continued underneath his new thread. The phrase was coined by our very own Doji Girl.

Jeff,
