Nice article Jeff.... a good read.

Forbes doesn't let you attach little clip, perhaps one of your favs like Tom Hanks laughing in the "Money Pit" yet ?

Berkshire,

I want to grab AMG in an asc. tri here, but it's in a downtrend. Or do you see a symmetrical tri? Does the trend give you pause?

Very good article, congratulations on being asked to publish the article is Forbes.

Jeff, another outstanding article. More informative than a speeding textbook and a lot better reading too!!!

My only question - I heard you talk about Synthetics at an Advanced Options Open House, do you favor one strategy over the other?

Jodi,

It looks to me like PTR could be forming a double bottom here.

thanks for the day-trading ideas. Anybody playing the triangle on POT?

Jeff:
Great article. Direct and to the point. Congratulations!

I wish Forbes.com wouldn't put so many links, (many of which are unrelated), within the body of your text. They tend to chop up your message and may tempt some readers astray in the middle of reading it.

Jeff, NICE!

Sam, yes, I am still holding USG (it is at my ...LOD)..and am looking to go long KBH

Sledge,

I see a sym tri on AMG. Trend isn't bothering me on this one. I am looking down, so it fits in nicely. Target is looking towards 75.

Jeff,
That was a great article. I read it in Forbes when it originally came out.
In your previous blogs you mentioned watching 20 closely for support and Friday XHB closed at 19.55.
I realize 20 is an 'area'.
Can you clear up this up:
Are you more neutral on XHB or still bullish?

Thanks
Sue

I see GRMN forming more of a double bottom with a Breakout around $72.50. Earnings on Wednesday. Anyone?

"GRMN"

I see neither, but it looks like the early stages of a trend reversal.

Tue, February 19, 2008 at 10:55AM | Registered CommenterOption Addict

Berkshire, Raimo,

Thanks, guys. Man, I was looking at AMG completely wrong. I'm rusty.

On an unrelated note, you guys use the Prophet Charts in TOS or Investools? Or TOS Charts?

Also, I just moved my accounts to TOS. Please tell me it gets easier with time. I am having a tough time configuring and using the site, so many choices and menus. Not sure where to look for things half the time. Awesome, but really complex. Is it something you get used to with more exposure?

Tue, February 19, 2008 at 10:55AM | Unregistered CommenterSledge Hammer!

Berk, Ya think?

Tue, February 19, 2008 at 10:57AM | Unregistered Commenterraimo

SueG,

Bullish to neutral. Let me explpain...

The reason I wrote about trading spreads on them was that I saw that volatility was pricing in more action than the stocks would really see.

In the short term I thought they would hold up, but not move as much as they did at the beginning of the year. I still think there is more upside in the future, but it will take time.

Sledge,

I switch over to TOS about a month ago, and I already feel much more comfortable then at first. I would suggest taking the time to watch at least the most basic tutorials they have.

Great article Jeff ... It's nice to see Forbes support an easy to understand - good teaching article in their format. They many times post articles that get quite wordy and you walk away from the read and wonder ..."what was that?" ....

Not true with your material ... They're smart to use it!

Westy,

Thanks, man. I'll review them again. Flew through them too fast the first time to retain very much. Just want to set up my portfolio so I can see what's going on without all the "noise".

RTI Bull Flag breakout on earnings.

Tue, February 19, 2008 at 11:25AM | Unregistered Commenterjym

Sledge,

It certainly gets easier. I've stopped using InvesTools prophet charts, and am using TOS prophet charts for most of my work. I do use the TOS charts for some other calculations, (without snap to OHLC, the TOS charts are troublesome, but then again, they let you enter a start/end value).

Either way, I use both in TOS, and it does get easier. Just be patient.

Glad to see your back at it.

Raimo,

Ah-hah, I see the re-tests. Didn't think of that. Man, these patterns are kicking my ass. How many years until I see what you guys see? I've only been doing this for nine months. Wish I could hire someone to trade at my desk all day with me and show me how to navigate this craft.

Sledge...

Does not mean the H & S is not forming..it just needs to confirm.....wait for the chart to tell you what it is planning on doing, IE..PATIENCE...it will tell you....do not anticipate, make your move at EE when you get your signal...

Jeff

Great article, thanks, it's always great to get an insight into your thinking on various sectors and trends.

Also last week I was debating over X versus MTL as a steel play and you recommended I opt for MTL over X due to strength in MTL price action, well you came out trumps again, MTL up 8.5% today versus X up 3.5%.

Again, thank you.

Raimo,
Thank god my crayon melted a little on my USG chart........I am still with you little BRO! Nice charts too!

Those additions to DBA, PHO, and GLD sure didn't hurt last week Mr. J Forbes Kohler!

Long:(ing) for the watchlist.

Raimo,
On ABT, I see a H&S which hasn't broken down through support (neckline) yet.
And thank you for SMTS. If it breaks through this area I see another 3 points coming.

Tue, February 19, 2008 at 11:43AM | Unregistered CommenterDoji Girl

Sledge,

Even with someone there, that doesn't mean you will start to see price patterns. It takes time my friend. Be patient, it will happen.

Wow, look at that pop on SNE. Guess the Blu-Ray victory made folks happy. I still use a Beta-Max powered by a hamster wheel.

Tue, February 19, 2008 at 11:52AM | Unregistered CommenterSledge Hammer!

What do people think about the SPY Ascending Triangle? Is this a breakout?

Tue, February 19, 2008 at 11:53AM | Unregistered CommenterWesty

SMTS..rock on....

ABT..I have no idea. If it breaks the neckline, I'd shorty it. If it bounces again off the neckline, I'd longy it.

Tue, February 19, 2008 at 11:56AM | Unregistered Commenterraimo

Jeff,
Is it possible that POT just broke out again for the 93rd time in the last year?:

Cheers,
ART

Tue, February 19, 2008 at 11:57AM | Unregistered CommenterARTY

Westy,

My vote is no. No triangle, no break-out.
For my views on a triangle, it would need some creative counting to make it work either way.

If you've got some, I'd sure love to see it.

Berkshire

Tue, February 19, 2008 at 11:57AM | Unregistered Commenterberkshire.rockaway

Westy,

Why would it be breaking out now vs. the higher high this morning? Only different piece of info is volume. And price beats volume.

This is how I see it.
