Yep with Ben Bailey. Show's awesome! I'll be around playing your trading videos again while working on some work. This week has been such a wash with trading since I've had zero time to prepare. I hate trading without having the ability to monitor what's going on.
I just finished watching your video on trendlines. Loved the music on both posts. One made me feel like I was in kindergarten and the other makes me feel like I should have been a teenager in the 70s. Thanks for the review.
What do you think about LVS? It's looking like a lot of other stocks. Either reversal or another shot back down.
Nope I am here, Just trying to catch up after a doctors appt. Argh... I need surgery. Teaches me to go to the gym and run and try to move those heavy things around.
I am still on semi double secret probation because I can't seem to get my A$$ in gear and 1. write down my rules. 2 Follow the mental ones I have.
So for all the newbies like me. Go to the search and type in Rules and you will get a ton of posts that will make you wiser. And don't be like me... Follow through and write them down. Or you will lose money like me, when a lot of people are making it.
I am beginning to hate the fact that Jeff and my wife are alike... they always seem to be right. Now why can't I just listen to them more? Or at least Jeff. (one out of two would be a nice goal).
Oh, wait... the doorbell rang.... Oh, it was just another trader... he just wanted to hand me my A$$. grrr.
Thanks to everyone for posting... I will be lurking, but not trading until my list of rules are complete. This will be timeout number 2.
I'm a simple man .....I live in speedos Life is Grand...except im stuck in freakin HANS... some jerk wad bought 1072 calls at 40 for 1.50 today or I'd have boogiied out with a smallish loss...now I'm pissed. My bean bag chair and cheetos taste flat. I need better rules. The sniper angle fits me, but my 401k looks like a 201g.
Jeff, I have run into a string of some losers lately. In fact PCU about a month ago was my last winner. I got duped on GILD, OMG (2x) and today CNX. Now, the good news is that I am more disciplined and my losses are much less than they used to be and all manageable. Well that's great but I would like a winner every now and then. I am down about 10% ytd, again manageable,
Today for instance I took CNX around 74. Needless to say CNX dropped thru the support line I drew of 73'ish so I sold. Now, was this the right thing to do or was I too quick to sell?
BTW,really like the new video. Your delivery is very clean and articulate. No "ahhs, ummm, you knows or F#$% or S*&$%. which is what I deal with all day. Good job.
Jeff I bought Feb 40 calls on the 'rumor' about KO you mentioned about a week ago. I'm under water ever since. I was going to bail today, but some jerk wad bought 1072 calls at the 40 strike Feb and paid 1.50. Thats like 160,000. They closed at like 1.10. He/she lost like 50,000 in 3 hours. I'd be upset. I'm at a total loss to understand here.
Watched the video and then went and watched the previous one on daytrading again. Got a whole lot more out of it this time around, so thank you! Again!
I posted this on the video post, but since everyone has moved on I'll do it again (sorry for the duplicate):
Jeff,
Great video, it also made me realize I should be going back in the video archives to watch any gems I may have forgotten about.
One thing I've always had problems with is if you treat trend lines as an area, instead of a line, then it makes it hard to know when it has really been violated and you should sell. Let's say your trend line could be anywhere in between a $1 range, and if it's violated you sell. But in terms of the option pricing, there's a huge difference if you sell at the top of your support area or the bottom. How do you deal with this?
Watch out! When everyone is talking about the 'sky is falling' at the water cooler - the big kahuna comes in and buys everything.
I will never forget the DOT COM bubble (buy, buy, buy) buy the COMs and get rich, mortgage the house, to sleep with the bear? So,question everything and trust nothing!
RIMM down almost 40% with good earnings???
McD for a bad Dec (food sucks and the coffee)
But wait! What am I doing? Doing the bear dance - damn right! And watching for the horns of the Bull!
Free2Trade, I totally agree, with a contrarian veiw point. Thats actaully the way I like to trade. I beleive the overall market sentiment has not gotten bad enough yet for a reversal, but you definetly have to keep a close eye, b/c the bulls could charge in any minute.
My apologies...TOS has temporarily lost my account. I have had in and out access and the Russian developers have yet to contact me with a solution. To add to that I have intermitent internet access for the whole week.
But I can't complain. My account has enjoyed a sizeable growth spurt this week.
Thanks for all you do and for giving us a community to discuss our trades. One of my biggest learning tools is a knowledgeable community.
Is the ticker new? I like it, but the top bar could move a little faster.
Jeff, could you do a post or a blurb on 'buying gamma'? I read another blog who often comments that it'd be a good time to buy gamma on a stock or in general. I have a basic understanding of what gamma is, but trying to figure out how to trade it makes my brain hurt.
BTW... I am a young first yeat Investools student. 15 monthes total (3 paper, 12 real money), and your style has tought me a lot about my own. I try to do as much as I can on my own as far as Technical Analysis and stop in time to time for ideas.
Jeff, I refresh your blog regularly throughout the day but don't intend to say much until I can get rid of those darn parenthesis that seem to gravitate toward my account statement and monitor pages.
Jeff, This is the best site for learning about trading/investing and you are the best at teaching it. I would like to add more but I work for an automotive co., and put in too many long hours. My dad is a big time Cramer fan and it seems the more I hear about Cramer and his advise, the more I'm grateful you are doing this. Please keep this going and I will try and add a little more.
Jeff, I'm lovin your blog. Also lovin the TWM and MZZ I went long back on 12/12. I'm working on trying to hold until my targets are met, but usually bail too soon.
Jeff, In response to yesterday's post - I hope you weren't (too) serious about bailing on the OA blog. I suspect many regulars are also professional "something elses" and can only visit intermittently. I am on here briefly ~7 am, noon and after 10 pm most nights but my ability to post is very limited. I have found that when I do post a question or response (generally ~ midnight to 1 am) it is at the tail end of a thread and doesn't get responded to as a new thread is started. By the time I can revisit the thread (24 to 48hr later) it is no longer relevant. Maybe I just need to find a more effective way to use these resources?
I have been following (stalking?!) you through IT trading rooms, mastertalk, Marketcast and met you breifly at a Utah 3 day live event last August. I have found this blog to be more informative, educational and immediately relevant then any of those platforms. I feel that I have limited insight to contribute compared to many others on here and have been reluctant to add clutter, instead opting to "lurk and learn". Thanks for all you do. The time and effort you put into this blog is GREATLY appreciated by many.
Nate- if you use Mozilla Firefox as a browser you can load Alpha Tracker as a free add on that allows you to have the streaming quotes of your choice displayed on your toolbar. You can control the symbols, speed and left to right or right to left direction, the only downside is it has a 20 minute delay.
Mark P - I know what you mean about trying to get a question answered here. If you're not able to jump on the roller coaster as it speeds by you miss the ride. I'm usually a day late and on the wrong track anyway. Stan
'when you lose, don't lose the lesson' I too have commissioned myself to the timeout chair, had I bought puts on the other side of my HANS debackle, my wound wouldn't bleed as much. I feel Peters pain, except they kept my A$$ and handed me back an empty speedo. My first loss, virginity was ever so innocent. Jeff, your a great teacher, but some of us students need 2X4 across the forehead on occasion.
Wow!!! Called it an early night (2am down here) on my trading exploits - about 1 1/2 hours into the trading day. As things turned out a quick few $ from the rising GS was the best it got and the site was pretty quiet when I headed to bed - look at it now - brilliant work Jeff - it'll take me a while to get through all of this and the comments made but look fwd to it.

Yeah. It should be more, but I am stubborn. My account balance shows that. I wish I could put a temporary block on my trading account.
Igor,
I never leave any Elephant books on the Lanai.
And where is that video everyone is talking about? Is it in the records rom?

ARTY,
It's under "Trading Videos" or Jeff put a link in his previous thread to just click on.

You bought puts on HANS, right? Or did you take the opposite side of my trade on this one?
Sarah,
I could use your video editing skills. You should sell coaching :)

I shouldn't of used the word duped. Didn't mean it that way. I meant the stock did me in.
I think we could figure out a trade :)

I expect tomorrow to be a -250 day, with CSCO earnings so bad and all of the Ecnominc data coming out. What do you guys think?
Thanks for the video jeff. That was great. We need of this kind of basic education.

Great suggestion. I consider myself a gamma trader, so that should be an easy one.
Does anyone think CEDC is a good short/put candidate with an apparent head & shoulders in development (6 month chart?)
