Loving the breadth...

Anyone else notice that?

I did.

Your last post speaks many volumes my friend...

Jeff,

That doesn't really surprise me.

huh damn. Was not at home and now I see this selloff. Damn. Now its too late to buy puts. I think we could see some rebound after this selloff. Too much in a day, this is not sustainable I think,.

Anyone buying any short or longs at the end of the day?

Tue, March 4, 2008 at 12:16PM | Unregistered CommenterTomaz

Jeff,

If these stocks are below the uptrend lines at the end of the day will you sell? Trying to apply what you did with the CLF trade....

Thanks,

Linda

Tomaz,

Look at these last declines...How many days in a row did we decline 250 plus.

THIS rate is very sustainable.

Big shout out to MON for kicking me square in the nuts!

Tue, March 4, 2008 at 12:20PM | Unregistered CommenterPoundcake

Breadth stinks today. And it's getting weaker.

Tue, March 4, 2008 at 12:22PM | Unregistered CommenterVA Beach Girl

Is anyone looking to pick up some DBA calls at this point or waiting?

Tue, March 4, 2008 at 12:22PM | Unregistered CommenterGeorge

Va Beach,

The second part of what you said is more important than the first. And breadth this bad, is worth noting.

Who posted yesterday about shorting ACI?

Nice call - think it will be a good trade for the short term.

George,

Can you read? Or did you just not read this Post??

Granted MRK is not a big mover, but I'm at 60% profit on this put.

Tue, March 4, 2008 at 12:24PM | Unregistered CommenterPoundcake

Anyone looking to short the exchanges?

Tue, March 4, 2008 at 12:26PM | Unregistered CommenterAXman721

Berkshire,
What do you use to measure market breadth?

Tue, March 4, 2008 at 12:26PM | Unregistered Commenterjym

If you have ToS...

Click the new little green Icon.

Click the arrow next to Index Watch or Index Details.

Select Public...SP100, SP500, NQ100 or DOW.

Then I simply look at the index of 100 stocks that I track.

Jeff,
You mentioned in the past that you didn't feel we would go much lower than the January low on $SPX.
Do you still feel that way?

Thanks

I might get back into some steel: AKS? Maybe even MTL.

Tue, March 4, 2008 at 12:28PM | Unregistered CommenterPoundcake

VA Beach,
PLCE is a great short. I wish I could do that in my RRSP as I've bit in the mushy bits by this market. Fortunately my SH and GLD and POT have held up reasonably well. Don't give up on DBA. I sold half of mine about 3 weeks ago and the other half about a week ago... waiting exactly for this time to get back in. I like your 41 line in the sand... and I think it'll hold that as support today. In another half hour I think I'll be getting back in. As they say in Viginia (where we're going to be next week, incidentally... at Mazanuten in some obscure part of your state) "C'mon in... the water's fine."

Yes and Yes I did read the post!!!! Just wondering what others were doing.

Is there a Iron and Steel ETF?

Tue, March 4, 2008 at 12:29PM | Unregistered CommenterPoundcake

I noticed the ACI yesterday and actually added BTU puts this morning. It may be a bit late for a new entry on BTU but both of these should have another down day tomorrow, in my opinion.

Wasn't trying to pick on you. Thanks for not being offended.

Tue, March 4, 2008 at 12:31PM | Unregistered Commenterberkshire.rockaway

Tomaz, I would wait for some signs of strength before anticipating a bounce. The market could go down significantly futher before bouncing and that is the type of thing you can lose a lot of money on if you're even a day or two early with your trade.

Tue, March 4, 2008 at 12:31PM | Unregistered CommenterTrader JH

I'm looking to short HOG as its breaking through a symmetrical triangle. Fundamentally, who the hell is buying Harleys anymore???

Tue, March 4, 2008 at 12:32PM | Unregistered CommenterAXman721

Chris,

You're going to be in Massanutan? Which days?

Tue, March 4, 2008 at 12:32PM | Unregistered CommenterVA Beach Girl

Thanks, I meant what indicators constitute market breadth? Adv/Dec, volume, etc. BTW one of the public watchlists is Indicators which will give you that info

***************ATTENTION ALL VILLAGE CITIZENS ***********

Your King has returned after a brief bout of sanity. DRYS and CNX were entered at exceptionally poor entry points last week. I can't get out because they haven't broken their trends (but why let that stop me? I got out of DRYS anyway. After all... I AM king) and I have lost more money than ARTY spends on a date... yup 25 bucks down the drain.

Letters of condolance can be sent to my widow.

gotta like the retest on CLR...although oil is getting smack hard today

Tue, March 4, 2008 at 12:38PM | Unregistered Commentergreg

Trader JH,

BTU looks weaker than ACI. But watch the $49 level on ACI as possible support. IMO

Tue, March 4, 2008 at 12:39PM | Unregistered CommenterAXman721

Kim,
Do you have to be able to spell it to visit? We're arriving this Saturday (unless we get snowed in up here) leaving the following Saturday. Are you within yodelling distance?

Tue, March 4, 2008 at 12:39PM | Unregistered CommenterChris and Catherine

Axman.
Old guys like me who wish they were younger and aspire to meeting young nurses by almost killing themselves are who is buying Harleys.

And we are a powerful group.

When we're healthy.

And regular.

Tue, March 4, 2008 at 12:59PM | Unregistered CommenterVA Beach Girl

Brian,
I doubt it. I don't have the required "Harley Look." They'd laugh me out of the joint.

Unless they make Harley Scooters.

Axman... sure. Given enough money and few enough brain cells, anything's possible.
